About me
I have been a qualified, freelance British Sign Language Interpreter since 2012, having studied with Sign Solutions. I am based in Warrington, Cheshire. I have broad experience within the interpreting field, working in a wide variety of domains. Prior to this I was employed by a local deaf charity for fourteen years, working within a range of roles including interpreter, in house personal communication assistant, outreach support services, careers guidance services and a volunteer coordinator. Before this time, I completed a BA (Hons) in English Language Studies which has been invaluable in my career as an interpreter.
In 2019 I qualified as a CAVA assessor and continue within this role, assessing and supporting learners within their journey to becoming a qualified interpreter. I very much enjoy seeing learners flourish and develop skills and confidence, through to becoming TSLI, and then MRSLI.
I did some CPD training on supervision many years ago with 360 Supervision, which then sparked an interest in taking this further. I realised that within a supervisory role I had the opportunity to give more than I can within my role as assessor, and so I began my diploma!
I studied for and successfully completed my Diploma in Professional Supervision for Sign Language Interpreters and Allied Professionals in 2022.
Now, I continue with my roles as BSL interpreter, assessor, and professional supervisor – alongside caring for my two children, so I have full understanding of the work/life/family load we often juggle!
I can offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space for you to reflect and explore your practice.
Supervision is time you set aside for yourself (which we rarely allow ourselves to do!), time to examine, consider and discuss various matters you encounter within your role. It can be discussing a difficult booking, lack of self-confidence within your work, dilemmas, dynamics, coworking, ambition, achievements and anything else work related you want to bring to the table.
Professional supervision is a commitment, and a gift to give yourself! Make that time to check in with yourself – it really is important!
